The word *chakra* comes from Sanskrit, meaning "wheel" or "circle." In yogic and Ayurvedic tradition, chakras are spinning wheels of energy located along the central channel of the body (the sushumna nadi).
The Seven Main Chakras
**Root Chakra (Muladhara):** Base of spine. Safety, security, survival. Color: Red.
**Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana):** Lower abdomen. Creativity, pleasure, emotions. Color: Orange.
**Solar Plexus (Manipura):** Upper abdomen. Personal power, confidence, will. Color: Yellow.
**Heart Chakra (Anahata):** Center of chest. Love, compassion, connection. Color: Green.
**Throat Chakra (Vishuddha):** Throat. Communication, truth, self-expression. Color: Blue.
**Third Eye (Ajna):** Forehead. Intuition, insight, imagination. Color: Indigo.
**Crown Chakra (Sahasrara):** Top of head. Consciousness, spiritual connection. Color: Violet/White.
